What is the ruling on playing video games which have haram concepts such as inappropriate pictures or actions?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
Initially, once there is a personification of Allah, it is haram, whether this personification is a part of the game or not. Allah, Glory be to Him, describes Himself as the One Who has no resemblance and has no equivalent. Allah says: “There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.” Ash-Shura: 11. How is it acceptable to make Him personified in a game? Once you play this game and participate in it, this means that you agree on and accept their notion, and this is absolutely haram.
Playing a game in which there are pictures of women with inappropriate clothes (almost naked) is also haram. Lowering your gaze so as not to look at them is not sufficient. This is because you choose to play such a game and spend some time which may lead you to do haram deeds. It is merely a game, and you are not forced to be there; you can leave it. Everything which is haram or almost haram must be avoided.
Leaving a game is easy, and you should work hard to gain Allah’s satisfaction.
