I am a sophomore. I have never cheated. During the previous semester, and since exams are conducted online, I asked a classmate to help me answering two exams so as to pass. I regretted doing this and I repented. However, I am still worried and have some concerns in my mind. I usually ask myself: should I tell the professor? If I get a job, will my payment be haram? Should I give up and quit my study? Our professor knew well that students had cheated, and because of these circumstances, he did not deprive any student. It is great when one reconsiders what they did, and works quickly to recover from their mistakes. This is an evidence that you are still having the goodness. Work hard to keep this goodness and virtue. What you should do is asking Allah to forgive you; keep praying and performing other acts of worship. Be dedicated once you get a job. Depend on yourself after relying on Allah. We regularly need people to assist us, but let this be legally. Do not resort to illegal means.
Regarding your future payment once you get a job, surely, it will be halal as long as you work hard.
Actually, you do not need to tell your professor about that issue. You need only to perform a lot of Istighfar.
