Is it allowed to shake hands and hug a non-Muslim (People of the Scripture) as they did me a favor despite my inside hatred?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
Initially, it is strange that you express your hatred to the People of the Scripture. Why do you do that. Originally, as Muslims, we have to treat them well as long as they do not do anything against us. Treating them well comprises verbal and non-verbal behavior. For example, it is recommended that you smile to them, assist them when necessary, and visit them once they are diseased. Moreover, you should be with them in the times of happiness and sorrow as long as these occasions have no actions which contradict with Islam.
To conclude, there is no harm in shaking hands or hugging. Maybe this kindness makes them think positively about Islam and guide them to the right path.
