What is the ruling if a girl recites the verses of the Holy Qur’an following the rules of Tajweed in a class where male and female students are?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
Basically, the voice of a woman is not considered ‘Awrah as long as she is distant from softening and melodizing. Muslim women used to ask Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) whenever they needed to. None denied or protested.
However, if the female student recites following the rules of Tajweed, this means that the she needs to use different tones of her voice or softening it; thus, there must be precautions especially if the recitation takes place in front of young men. If she recites normally, there is no harm.
To conclude, it could be better if the males had a seprate class and the females had their own class. This would be closer to piety.
