During Coronavirus pandemic, I was working from home, and I got my full wage. When we were informed about the specific fund which was allocated to those who remained jobless during the pandemic, I registered my brothers’ names and mine. It happened that I received a message to get the amount of money which was NIS 700. However, I did not go, nor did I get the money as I felt that this amount of money is not halal because I kept getting my salary. I observed the fear of Allah which prevented me from getting the money. Was this a right action?

Answer

Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.

Referring to your question, I would like to note that that funding was allocated to those who lost their jobs or who remained jobless during the pandemic as a compensation. However, whoever did not stop working, continued working, and got their salary must not get any of that fund.

Allah says: “O you who believe! Eat not up your property among yourself unjustly except it be a trade amongst you, by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely Allah is Most Merciful to you.” An-Nisa’: 29
