What is the ruling on getting fat injection on my hands to fatten my fingers as they are too slim? Having too slim fingers makes people bully me.

There are some details related to your question. Fat injection or cosmetic surgeries are allowed if they are used as treatment. In other words, if the cosmetic surgery is needed to restore a body part which was distorted because of a disease, accident or fire, then the cosmetic surgery is allowed. However, if the purpose behind the cosmetic surgery is to add beauty or to change a shape of a body part, it is considered a change of Allah’s creation which is not allowed.

Shaikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussain, the General Mufti (Muslim Legal Scholar), in the Palestinian Legal Verdict Council was once asked about the ruling on cosmetic surgeries to beautify the area surrounding the eye. Is that cosmetic surgery allowed to be done whether it is fat injection, collagen filling or removal of the extra part of the higher eyelid?

He said that such a surgery is allowed if it is undergone by a specialist who is trustworthy so as to make sure that there will be no complications. The surgery must be done by a female surgeon. If there are no female surgeons, then the woman can refer to a Muslim, male and trustworthy surgeon.

However, doing a cosmetic surgery to change a shape of a body part which has not been distorted is not allowed as it is considered a change in Allah’s creation which is prevented. To change the creation is one of the promises that Satan had made. Satan said to Allah that he will tempt humans to do that. This appears in the following verse.  Allah says: “Allah cursed him. And he (Satan) said: I will take an appointed portion of Your slaves. * Verily, I will mislead them, and surely I will arouse in them false desires; and certainly, I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and indeed I will order them to change the nature created by Allah. And whoever takes Satan as a protector or helper instead of Allah has surely suffered a manifest loss.” An-Nisa’: 118-119

Therefore, as having too slim fingers hurt you emotionally because people bully you, you can have fat injection provided that there will be no complications. This fatwa (decision No. 1/81, 178/2010) was issued by the Palestinian Verdict Council on 3/6/2010.
