What is the man’s ‘Awrah?

Answer

Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.

Scholars have agreed that the man’s ‘Awrah is what is between his navel and knees. However, the navel itself and the knees are not considered parts of the ‘Awrah. It is narrated that the prophet (PBUH) passed by Mu’ammar while Mu’ammar’s thighs were exposed, so the prophet said: “O Mu’ammar, cover your thighs for indeed they are ‘Awrah.’ Related by Abu Dawood, Ahmad, and Tirmidhi.

It is also narrated that the prophet (PBUH) passed by Jarhad Al-Aslami while his thigh is exposed (i.e. Jarhad’s thigh), so the prophet said: “Haven’t you known that the thigh is ‘Awrah?”. Graded as a good Hadith

Ibn Abbas RAA narrated that the prophet said: “The thigh is ‘Awrah.” Related by Tirmidhi.

All these evidences show that the man’s ‘Awrah is what is between his navel and knees, and the navel and knees are not parts of it.
