I would like to tell you my story. I am a girl who almost did all major sins. I did not drink wine; however, I committed adultery more than once. I love Allah, but I do not obey Him. In contrast, I do everything which makes me far from Him and from the right path. I repented, but then, I went back to performing great sins. I was trying to memorize the Holy Qur’an, then I left it aside. I have a boyfriend with whom I made sex. I also practice masturbation. Despite these heinous sins, Allah is sill preserving me from scandals. Am I attached to sins? What shall I do?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
As long as you are telling your story that you have committed major sins, I have no words to say, but I would like to remind you with the Qur’anic verse: “Say: O My slaves who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: verily, Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” Az-Zumar: 53
You have transgressed against yourself as you said, so time has come to repent and go back to the right path. To love Allah without obeying Him is not sufficient. A lover usually obeys their beloved. If you sincerely want to repent, you have to do many things. Avoid going to places where sins are committed. Instantly leave wicked guys. Instead, try to accompany pious friends. Try to set noble goals and work to achieve them. Be busy doing beneficial actions such as reading or learning. Keep asking Allah to forgive you, keep praying to Him to guide you to the right path. It is also vital that you commit yourself to performing every act of worship.
I pray to Allah that He forgives you and then accepts you.
