I would like to ask whether the payment that I get from my job is halal or haram because of the following issue. I work as a teacher in a governmental school. Governmental schools have a new methodology which aims at raising the percentage of students who pass. They give them worksheets which are almost identical to exams. Participation marks have no restricted criteria. I think all of those practices do not give the hardworking students their rights as other students who do not work hard may get similar grades. What shall I do?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
Unfortunately, such practices are on increase. This may produce lazy students with high marks. These students are deceived as they think they are top ones. However, if these students are evaluated correctly, they will have their real marks which reflect their levels.
In respect to your question, if you really need this job to earn a living and to feed your family, you can stay provided that you do your best to achieve fairness and reduce the use of these practices. Meanwhile, try to find a new job.
If you are not in need, and you can quit instantly, it will be better. Remember, whoever quits something for Allah’s sake, Allah will reward them by giving them a better substitute.
