Question

Reference number: 625904 | Mosques |

What is the ruling of selling a mosque if Muslims who live nearby move to another area and thus, it could be taken over or damaged? In some cases, Muslims buy a house and convert it into a mosque, and if those Muslims move to another area because of work circumstances, for example, this mosque could be neglected and abandoned which may let others take it over.

Answer

Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.

It is allowed to sell a mosque that has no longer become a destination and there are no Muslims who want to go there which, if not sold, could be taken over, provided that Muslims who sell it should use the price of it to get another mosque in another area.
