Is getting eyelash extension that could last up to two months considered similar to getting hair extension? What is the ruling on that?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
In general, getting extension: eyelash extension or hair extension is not allowed. The prophet said: “Allah has cursed those women who tattooed themselves, the women who remove their eyebrows, the women who make spaces between their teeth for beautification changing What Allah has created.” Related by Muslim.
However, there are some exceptions. If such extensions are used as necessity, treatment, or if they are used temporarily. All under restrictions. Nevertheless, there are some scholars who consider getting extension is haram.
Shaikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussain, the General Mufti (Muslim Legal Scholar), in the Palestinian Legal Verdict Council was once asked about wearing lenses or fixing extension as forms of makeup in wedding parties or other parties. He said, it is allowed for a woman to wear lenses or fix extensions in parties provided that she does not appear to strange men; in other words, women, he husband or her mahrams can only see her in that situation. In addition, these forms are allowed if they do not cause any harm to the user, and if they are not used to cheat others. If one of the above restrictions has been broken, then wearing lenses or fixing extension will be considered haram.
