There are many drugs (medicines) that contain a percentage of alcohol which ranges between 0.01% to 25%. Most of which are treatments for cold, sore throat, cough and others. These treatments, which contain these amounts of alcohol represent almost 95% of treatments for these diseases. This makes it difficult for us to find treatments which are completely non-alcoholic. Thus, what is the ruling?

Answer

Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.

A Muslim who is patient can take these medicines which contain some amounts of alcohol if finding alternatives is hard; provided that these medicines are prescribed by a Muslim and trustworthy doctor.
