Reference number: 685855 | Relationship with Non-Muslims |

What is the ruling if a Muslim woman wants to get married of a non-Muslim man wishing that he will convert into Islam after marriage? What if the reason behind this is that some women do not find qualified men to marry them, and they fear committing sins?

Answer

Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.

A Muslim woman cannot marry a non-Muslim man at all; this is stated in the Holy Qur’an, Sunnah, and the scholars’ consensus. If they marry, their marriage is illegal and invalid. There are no legal consequences of such a marriage; even if they have children, their children will be considered illegitimate children. Wishing that the husband may convert into Islam after marriage is not to be considered and cannot change the rule. He should be a Muslim before marriage.
