What is the ruling on taking a loan with interest from a charitable organization for the purpose of paying university fees?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
This is an interest-based loan with an annual interest rate; usury is prohibited unless there is a necessity.
You should try to afford the fees through a lawful means. However, if you are unable to do so after making every possible effort, and this would result in your son’s studies being delayed or his inability to sit for his exams on time, then this situation may be considered one of necessity.
