Does bleeding few and intermittent menstrual drops break the fast?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
Menstruation is bleeding that goes out from women as this is her fate. Menstruation is periodic; it goes out in certain times; it has certain characteristics. If all characteristics are applied, and these intermittent drops go out during the period and identical to menstruating blood, then it is considered menstruation. Therefore, the rules of menstruation should be followed like: breaking the fast, preventing from performing the prayers; she should also prevent from sexual intercourse. Allah says: “They ask you concerning menstruation. Say: that is an Adha (a harmful thing for a husband to have a sexual intercourse with his wife while she is having her menses), therefore, keep away from women during menses and go not to them till they are purified (from menses and have taken a bath). And when they have purified themselves, then go in to
them as Allah has ordained for you (go in to them in any manner as long as it is in their vagina). Truly, Allah loves those who turn to Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves (by taking a bath and cleaning and washing thoroughly their private parts, bodies, for their prayers.” A-Baqarah: 222
