My mother is illiterate; she wishes she could recite the verses of the Holy Qur’an. How can she get the reward of recitation while she could not read?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
The one who recites the Qur’anic verses gets three types of rewards: the reward of recitation, the reward of listening to the recitation and the reward of looking at the Mushaf. As long as your mother is illiterate, I recommend that you recite loudly while you are sitting next to her; thus, you will get the three types of reward, and she will get two types: the reward of listening and the reward of looking at the Mushaf. I hope that you and your siblings allocate times when you teach her how to read and write, and therefore, you will be rewarded greatly.
