I share a house with my friend. It happened that he asked me to leave it for some time because he was dating a girl. If I do, am I considered sinful?

Answer

Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.

Referring to your question, Allah urges us to help each other in doing good deeds; however, He prevents us from supporting each other in doing any immoral deeds. Allah says: “Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression.  And fear Allah.  Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment” A-Ma’idah: 2

As long as you know the reason behind your friend’s request, you will be considered a participant as you help him in doing the haram. Even if he does not want to do a major sin, being alone with a girl in a closed place is a sin, and our religion forbids that. Omar Ibn Al-Khattab narrated that the prophet (PBUH) said: “Whenever a man is alone with a woman, the devil makes a third.” Related by Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hibban graded it.

Nevertheless, none can guess what may happen afterwards; they may do a bigger sin. It would be better if you kindly advise your friend not to do that and to stop thinking in such a way. Kindly ask him not to be close to sins, but to be closer to the right path.
