What is the ruling on performing the Eid Prayer in different mosques at the same time in the same area?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
Originally, the Eid Prayer must be performed in one area at one time unless there is a necessity to perform it in different mosques. This is because the intention of performing it is to let people gather in one place to know each other and to get their hearts united. If two mosques are close to each other, it will be better to pay an effort calling Muslims to pray in one of the two mosques to achieve the above-mentioned goals. However, if those who are in charge of performing the Eid Prayer insist on performing it in the two different mosques, you can pray it in the mosque which is closer to you, keeping in mind, the goals are not achieved. Furthermore, doing this (performing it in two different mosques) may reflect a bad image of Muslims.
If the two mosques are in two different areas, far from each other, and in a large city, there is no harm in performing the Eid Prayer in each without questioning which one is correct and which one is not.
