Is the Paradise from which Prophet Adam had fallen the same Paradise of the Afterlife?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
The exact description of the Paradise from which Adam had fallen is controversial. However, the overweighed opinion is that it is eternal paradise which is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an. It is the Paradise that Allah has promised His pious slaves. It is not on earth as some claim. There are some evidences which tell that it is the eternal paradise. In the Holy Qur’an the word Janna (Paradise) comes with the definite article (the) which tells us that it is the one we are told about. It is not an indefinite noun. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an addressing Adam: “Dwell with your wife in (Al-Jannah) the Paradise” Al-Baqarah: 35.
Then, Allah says: “Get you down (from the Paradise to the earth) both of you.” Taha: 123
Thus, descending and getting down consequently indicate moving from a high place to a lower one.
Allah also says in the Holy Qur’an addressing Adam and describing his life in Paradise: “Verily, you have (a promise from Us) that you will never be hungry therein or unclothed.” Taha: 118
Such a life does not exist but in the eternal Paradise.
