The Sacrifice becomes designated through a verbal declaration according to some scholars, while others hold that intention alone is sufficient. this applies to someone who purchases an animal intending to slaughter it as an Sacrifice.
Ibn Qudāmah states in Al-Mughnī that, according to Al-shāfiʿī, the Sacrifice is designated by a verbal declaration rather than intention, whereas Mālik and Abū Hanīfah hold that purchasing an animal with the intention of offering it as the Sacrifice makes it an udhiyah.
As for someone who purchases animals intending to sell them to people who will offer them as udhiyah, nothing is required of him, because his intention is commercial rather than devotional. indeed, it would be preferable not to refer to them as udhiyahs when purchasing them.
