What is the ruling on working for a booking company that includes Israeli hotels?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. To proceed:
The basic ruling is that a company’s work in booking hotels and acting as an intermediary in such bookings is permissible, as it involves facilitating a permissible benefit. The ruling does not change merely because the customer is Israeli, as dealing with non-Muslims in matters that are permissible is fundamentally allowed.
However, it is not permissible to carry out work that directly assists in injustice, aggression, or any prohibited activity, nor to process a booking that you know, or strongly suspect, is intended for a sinful purpose.
Accordingly, if your role is limited to cancelling or modifying a booking at the customer’s request, and the bookings are not connected to anything prohibited under Islamic law or to facilitating aggression, there is no harm in the nature of your work, and you are not required to refuse a request merely because of the customer’s nationality. However, if it becomes clear that the booking is connected to occupation, aggression against people, or providing services to an aggressor, you must refrain from processing it.
And Allah knows best.
