I loved a guy with whom I committed adultery. I am regretful, and I repented. I keep asking Allah for His Forgiveness. I keep praying. Shall I be subjected to the adultery punishment which is prescribed by Allah in the Holy Qur’an?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
Undoubtedly, what you did is considered a major sin. Allah says: “And come not near the unlawful sex. Verily, it is a Fahishah (i.e. anything that transgresses its limits: a great sin) and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allah forgives him).” Al-Isra’: 32
Being repentant and regretful, insisting on performing prayers and other forms of worship, keeping asking Allah to forgive you, restraining from watching porn movies, preventing yourself from being in illegal relationships, all these deeds would help you to gain Allah’s forgiveness, and such behavior may let Him accept your repentance.
Regarding prescribed punishment, you should know that the majority of Islamic countries do not apply Allah’s rules in punishment. Thus, keep this secret to yourself; do not talk about it in front of others. And go ahead in the right path.
