What should one do when they feel some liquids go out with flatus? Are the clothes and the body pure, or shall I purify or change them?
Answer
Praise Be to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Messenger.
Referring to your question, the emission of either urine or stool whether it is hard or liquid except for gasses (flatus) is considered to be impure. Shaikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussain, the General Mufti (Muslim Legal Scholar), in the Palestinian Legal Verdict Council issued a verdict in which he said the following:
“The emission of either urine or stool, such as the prostatic fluid, faesces, blood, or urine is considered to be impure. Ibn Qudama stated that whatever goes from those channels is impure except for very few materials. (Al-Mughni: 1/767).
Whoever intends to perform the prayer must wash the clothes to which these substances reach. Then, they must perform ablution. If one feels these substances, they must purify the clothes and perform ablution, but if they feel seminal emission, they must take purity shower.
If one cannot prevent the emission of these substances, nor they can purify their clothes or change them every time, they can use any changeable handkerchief (or any other similar piece of cloth), remove it, and wash that part, then they can perform ablution and pray. This state is considered an excuse as it is considered like a disease called enuresis. It is important to note that the above-mentioned steps must be performed after the prayer call.”
